Pacific Underground: Spring Silent Films
For the first time during a Siapo Cinema season, we have invited musicians to support a special programme of selected films excerpts from Ngā Taonga Sound & Vision’s collections. These films were all made in and around the Pacific between 1900s and 1950s.
Joining us from Auckland and Christchurch, highly acclaimed performing arts company, Pacific Underground will welcome you to our cinema. With their dulcet sounds from the Underground, they will serve up instrumental colour on a platter, along with improvised harmony, for refreshments.
Pacific Underground exists to tell stories of Pacific peoples, living and growing up in Aotearoa through Drama, Music, events, gigs and festivals. The company celebrated their 25th anniversary in 2018, which makes them the longest running Pacific Contemporary performing arts organisation in Aotearoa. In 2016 they received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Pacific Music Awards for their contribution to the arts industry in Music, Theatre and Event management. Starting out in theatre the group has produced eight main bill theatre shows and ten school shows for secondary schools around Aotearoa.
This is a very special one-time collaboration.
