In the wake of a Network News report last night linking the American Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) with the Maori loans affair Opposition Leader Jim Bolger is calling for an urgent judicial inquiry into the affair. Acting Prime Minister Geoffrey Palmer says the Government will now make some intelligence checks on the CIA link, but he’s rejecting National’s calls for an inquiry. There’s still no word of the whereabouts of hostage negotiator Terry Waite, who hasn’t been seen publicly for several days while on a mission in Lebanon. Meanwhile another two Europeans, probably West Germans have been kidnapped in Beirut.

The West German hostage crisis is proving to be a major headache for the West German Government, where elections are being held tomorrow.
