The Labour Caucus played safe today, electing Geoffrey Palmer as the new Prime Minister and Helen Clark his deputy. There was strong lobbying for Mike Moore, and Roger Douglas tried hard for the deputy’s job, but in the end the most favoured combination won through. The announcement was made by David Lange who says he’s confident Labour’s future is in the hands of people who will honour the party’s heritage.
