Part 1 of 2

Doug Laurenson broadcasts a commentary to New Zealand via the BBC.

Over here on the Western Desert operations in the Middle East continue
to 'Progress Satisfactorily'. That phrase used in the official
communique announcing our advance has tickled the imagination of every
soldier in Egypt.

It is used to describe the blows to the Italian forces. Many a man has
adopted it as his favourite expression. It has almost replaced the
'Tommies' Arabic phrase 'Quies Katira' meaning OK CAN DO.

A corporal who took part in the attack which gave the world the news
that we had started the offensive will tell you of the waiting, the
advance at dawn, of attacks which cut off Italian camps and the capture
of thousands of prisoners.

He will say:- You will be fairly safe in saying 'Things ARE progressing
satisfactorily'.
