Good, George, Speaker/Kaikōrero

Captain George Good continues his talk about the function and activities of the RMT (Reserve Mechanical Transport Company) in Greece, in particular during the withdrawal of the allied forces when the group undertook one of its most important duties. The RMT carried troops by night and supplies of petrol and ammunition by day, facing danger twenty four hours a day.

Captain Good speaks about an incident in which an officer took twenty trucks into a forward area, in order to evacuate troops during daylight. The last group who were fighting a rear-guard action had difficulty getting away, so the trucks that were already loaded were sent on their way. The officer then organised the loading of the rear-guard and they escaped with the Germans only 150 yards away. This same officer was killed five days later while arranging another evacuation, and was awarded the MBE.
