"Part 1 of 2
New Zealand Broadcasting Unit commentator Doug Laurenson [Military Service no. 34957] records a commentary about developments in the six months since Italy entered the war.
Official war comuniques announce large numbers of prisoners, troop movements on Italian forces in Libya, there are large scale operations in conjunction with the Royal Airforce, and Mussolini's famous fleet disappears behind a smoke screen at the sight of a British ship.
His army is in full retreat from Greek territory. Today more than a quater of the population from Albania has been freed from Italian rule.
This item is part of a collection of recordings made by the Mobile Broadcasting Units, which travelled overseas with New Zealand forces between 1940-1945. They recorded New Zealanders' experiences of war and messages to their families and friends, which were sent back home to be played on a weekly radio programme.
