The NZBU Commentator, M. D. Laurenson continues with an account of the operation in Greece, which came to an end with the evacuation of the allied forces.
Many stories are told of the ways and means the New Zealand soldiers made their way to the beaches. One party sailed across six miles of water by night in a boat using planks for oars and a shovel as a tiller. Several men swam distances up to two miles.
The New Zealand troops held a very high opinion of the Greeks, who were absolutely splendid. The Greeks helped our men in every way that was humanly possible.
