New Zealand Broadcasting Service. Mobile Recording Unit

A report by Doug Laurenson [Military Service no.34957], commentator with the New Zealand Mobile Broadcasting Unit, based in Cairo with the New Zealand Division. Part 4 of 4.

Laurenson describes how a battalion on desert manoeuvres prepares for the night, after coming to a halt in the evening. The men sleep in the open, under the stars in a shallow trench, an experience thousands of tourists used to pay for before the war.

This item is part of a collection of recordings made by the Mobile Broadcasting Units, which travelled overseas with New Zealand forces between 1940-1945. They recorded New Zealanders' experiences of war and messages to their families and friends, which were sent back home to be played on a weekly radio programme.
