John Proudfoot, commentator with the wartime New Zealand Mobile Broadcasting Unit in Italy, sends a despatch from the Senio River area.
New Zealanders had established themselves across a wide front. The air force had laid a deadly carpet of fragmentation bombs in front of the allied troops near the Santerno River area.
The German forces withdrew from Lugo. On the main front the advance was resumed and enemy opposition was weak. The previous night saw a strong concentration of infantry and tanks at the banks of the Santerno River.
