A compilation of five Morning report excerpts:

1. Labour Party leader, David Lange, releases Labour's money policy and says there must be a prices and income policy, that interest rate controls must go as they are having a devastating effect on the small business borrower. April 6, 1984.

2. The Prime Minister Sir Robert Muldoon refuses to answer media questions about Keith Allen's alleged assault. Karen Fisher reports and also on the story that the Parliamentary Press Gallery is to be charged rent for premises in Parliament Buildings - setting a precedent in western parliamentary democracies. Mr Muldoon says that the press are only interested in reporting the sensational, rather than recording constructive material either from the House or from select committees. April 9, 1984.

3. Hugh Rennie, the editor and director of Fourth Estate newspapers, discusses the libel law and media problems concerning the Prime Minister's comments in saying the Parliamentary Press Gallery is not a gallery of record and that the gallery will be charged rent. April 10, 1984.

4. The Minister of Education, Merv Wellington, comments on the Coalition for Open Government's (COG) claim that the original proposed new curriculum for schools was revised and censored. The COG said they would publish the leaked reports. Merv Wellington refutes the allegation that the report was revised in secret. April 10, 1984.

5. Rebecca Scott reports on the rent which has been applied to the Parliamentary Press gallery. Geoffrey Palmer says that if a rent is imposed a Labour Government would review it with a mind to abolishing it. He says there is always room for improvement in the reporting of select committees. April 11, 1984.
