FROM THE BACK COUNTRY

BC96/1 Don Grady, Island Hermit

Don Grady talks about visiting an old school mate of his Ross Webber, who has lived alone on a small island in the Marlborough Sounds for 36 years. Ross is almost entirely self sufficient on the island, running a few sheep, growing his own food and tea, and has been making his own beer since he was 12 years old. Ross is suspicious of outsiders, and doesn't like the term 'hermit'.
