Radio New Zealand Nationwide Tonight Show host George Balani, with Telecom's support, broadcasts live from Scott Base in Antarctica over four nights. This was a world first for broadcasting. Mr Balani speaks with people involved with scientific research, geologists, meteorologists, hydrologists, and various staff who maintain services to the various Antarctic bases.

In each programme there are Christmas messages from the people at Scott Base, Vanda Station, and McMurdo Base (Mactown).

12th Dec. Ian Turnbull - geologist, John Alexander - Operations Manager, Dr. Ben Omeja - Waikato University (studies the fish under the ice), Dave Creerar - Officer in Charge of Scott Base.

13th Dec. Dennis Corlette - Vanda Research Station leader, Errol Luthwaite - meteorologist, Martin Doyle - Surveyor, Dr Ray Dibble - volcanologist, Bob Thompson - talks about Robert Falcon Scott's hut.

14th Dec. Richard Griffin reports on the political situation in New Zealand (Roger Douglas resignation), Prue and J.R. - Survival course, Kerry Patterson and Jo Robinson - chefs and Fire Chief, Cole Hayward - American helicopter pilot, American Tammy Cant, Trevor McGowan - Kiwi helicopter pilot with German expedition, Robin Black - Helicopters New Zealand engineer, Phil Robins - Scott Base Manager, Heather Gilmore - Telecom technician.

15th Dec. Nigel Millar, Malcolm Fraser - Canteen Manager, Ron McCount - McMurdo Base Senior, Captain Cathie Gourdy - NZ Army, Matt Arthur - Telecom. In the final hour of broadcasting New Zealanders were able to call, via Christchurch, with messages to family and friends in Antarctic.
