Theme music. Announcer - "Welcome again to our Māori programme and to our Māori listeners..."
Announcer - "We open this programme with an ancient chant. This particular chant was composed by Mihi-ki-te-kapua of Ngāti Ruapani, Tuhoe, and it is said this lament was composed by this old lady about herself. So that you can follow the meanings of the Māori words you will hear the lament being sung in the background and we will read the translation in English. This version is by a Ngāti Porou group. (Cf. Nga Moteatea, Vol II, pp86-7).
Recording of waiata follows Verses III, I and II.
Announcer - "We now listen to Dr Roger Duff, Director of the Canterbury Museum, who speaks as an archaeologist on the history of man in the Pacific.
Opens: "Now I speak here..." Ends: "...back this early culture."
Announcer - "To support that interesting talk by Dr Roger Duff, we play now recordings taken in 1954 during the preparation for the Māori reception to Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh at Rotorua. It is the Tai Rawhiti party of approximately 400 performing the powhiri, Te Urunga Tu, the haka wahine, Ka panapana, and the haka taparahi, Ruaumoko. These recordings were made during their final rehearsals."
Powhiri, Ka panapana, Ruaumoko.
Announcer - "And that ends this magazine programme, and this is your compere Bill Parker and on behalf of your producer Bill Kerekere saying...goodnight." Music fades.
