Fergusson, Bernard, 1911-1980, Speaker/Kaikōrero

Recordings made at the opening of Te Ōhākī wharenui at Roma Marae, Ahipara.

Kaikōrero: Governor-General Sir Bernard Fergusson replies in te reo Māori and English to the many speakers and to the people of Taitokerau who have welcomed him to Ahipara.

An unidentified speaker (possibly Eru Pou) then presents him with a report on behalf of the New Zealand Māori Council.

Broadcast commentator Alf Sanft then describes the scene as Sir Bernard officially opens Te Ōhākī wharenui and accompanied by Sir Turi Carroll and the many VIPs, enters the meeting house.
