A complete programme featuring waiata aroha sung in pre-European times, using archival Māori Purposes Fund Board recordings from the 1950s.
These waiata aroha were made in the field, and mostly composed by women. Most are laments, for loved ones.
- Waiata aroha: Unidentified, sung by an East Coast group.
- Waiata E toa te ra: sung by a Kahungunu kuia.
- Waiata: E noho ana au i te roro o to whare
- Moe murimuri i taku moe (lament for Captain Spencer, Hemara's pakeha husband).
- Waiata: A song of affection for Retireti Tamahana.
- Waiata: Composed byTerina Turupa who was not allowed to marry the person whom she loved.
- Waiata: Love song composed by a woman who loved her husband, who was taken away by another woman.
- Waiata: Pertains to a mother whose daughter was discarded by her father because she went to live with another Iwi (a lament - Ngāti Porou waiata)
- Waiata: Lament / E toa te ra, (there seems to be quite a few variations to this waiata).
- Waiata: A song of two wives by a Ngāti Porou composer, me nga kai waiata.
