QUEEN CHARLOTTE SOUND.
“Snuggled in the heart of sheltering hills at the head of Queen Charlotte Sound, and bathed in golden sunshine lies the picturesque town of Picton.”
“By reason of its beautiful surrounding it is fast becoming popular as a holiday resort.”
“Approaching the wharf. The “Tamahine” laden with excursionists from the Capital City.”
The Tamahine steams its way towards the wharf. Here passengers disembark.
“Sunshine turns the water to azure blue, while billowing clouds float dreamily overhead.”
Scenes include: A small settlement; children and adults walk and play on the beach; pleasure craft out in the harbour.
“Champions all.”
Cox’s four rowing events take place.
“Setting out for one of the numerous bays that dot the Sound.”
“A happy party.”
People crowded into a small outboard motorised boat enjoy the trip.
“Trying their luck.”
“One of the many types of fish that frequent these waters, known as the Gurnet or Butterfly fish.”
Some are successful in pulling in a fishor two.
“The lure of the water proves irrresistible.”
People from the boat take a dip, while others make preparations to boil the billy on the shoreline.
“A welcome sound that seldom fails to elicit a hearty response.”
One of the men sounds the tin-can. An outdoor lunch is enjoyed by everyone.
An abrupt ending.
