On December 23 1953, the royal yacht Gothic arrived in Auckland Harbour with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and HRH the Duke of Edinburgh onboard.

During the Royal Summer of 1953-54 the Queen travelled over 2620 miles visiting 46 towns and cities and attending 110 separate functions. Internal Affairs staff faced the enormous task of creating a schedule detailing the route and transport requirements including 36 British cars, (Daimlers, Humbers, Vauxhall, Veloxs, Austins) an R.N.Z.A.F. plane and Alteron aircraft.

Working for the British Petroleum Company (New Zealand), Pacific Films produced this sponsored documentary detailing every aspect of the tour, from Auckland to Bluff, from a transportation point of view.
