For thousands of years armies have been battling in the Sinai Dessert. In this century alone there has been five local wars and New Zealand has taken a prominent part in two of them.
New Zealand is playing its part in the multi-national peace-keeping force whose job is to report any violations of the 1979 Egyptian, Israeli Peace Treaty. The Labour Party thinks that our troops should be withdrawn. The Government disagrees.
From the Sinai Ted Sheehan reports:
Algora is the main operational base of the multi-national force. Among the 1500 force members living here, 36 are New Zealanders, mostly from the Air Force.
Interviews with Wing Commander Ian Brunton of New Zealand and members of the Labour Government.
