Section (with added stills) of the 1897 sport event, the World Heavyweight Boxing Championship, between Timaru boxer Bob Fitzsimmons, and American Jim Corbett, at Carson City, Nevada on 17.3.97 (originally 11,000ft long).
“Second silent picture recording with added scenes. Corbett/Fitzsimmons Championship Bout, Carson City, Nevada, March 17 1897. Since the above picture was released and copies mailed some dozen or more persons in New Zealand, Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, copies of additional clips taken from the original nitrate film were “flushed out” and friends kindly forwarded them to me.”
“These clips, taken by persons unknown, give additional views of the arena where the bout was held, but now also show the famous “solar plexus punch”. Here they are re-photographed for 16mm projectors. Some eight years have elapsed, but I trust you will find them an interesting addition to the film released in 1968 - 1969.
