In August 1948 3ZR became 3YZ. The recording includes brief excerpts of Tommy Handley in 'Itmar' and Eb and Zeb in 'The Country Storekeepers'. The 3ZR engineer, manager and message boy [unidentified male speaker], talks about the home-made transmitter 3ZR first used which was created from scrap parts and identifies the costs it took to run the station. He also describes the sorts of programmes and how the earthquake of February 1931 marked the start of broadcasting on the coast. The Westcoast Radio Society was formed shortly afterwards, the station grew, moved to larger premises at Cobden and extended its hours of transmission.
