Jon Gadsby takes a journey along some of the Clutha River’s most scenic spots. The main source lakes are Hawea, Wanaka and Wakatipu. Speaking to many of the locals along the way he traces the history of gold miners who endured harsh wintery conditions on its banks. Travelling by speed boat and white water rafting, Jon stops along the way for an exhilarating bungy jump. He visits old and new Cromwell and the Clyde Dam which will form Lake Dunstan when completed. Paul Wilson, commissioning engineer for the Clyde Project, answers some of Jon’s questions before giving him a tour of the site. Other stages of the journey include Clyde, Alexandra, a southernmost vineyard, old mining sites, canoeing and a stopover to enjoy whitebait fritters provided by locals. The journey finally ends at the mouth of the Clutha River, (210 miles long) a few miles north of Nugget Point.
