Charlie Chilcott Collection
(1930 - 1989)
The Charlie Chilcott Collection consists of papers, scrapbooks and a photograph album.
The papers were compiled by projectionist Charlie Chilcott and his wife, Joy Chilcott, from 1930 - 1989.

The photograph album (Ref. MA0733) compiled by Charlie Chilcott contains 450 prints. The majority of the photographs document projectionists and projection equipment in cinemas throughout New Zealand during the early 1970s. Some of the images show cinema frontages. A few images date from the 1930s, 1950s and 1980s.

Photographs from the 1970s and 1980s were taken by Chilcott when visiting cinemas as vice president of the Union of Projectionists. Annotations by Chilcott record the names of the projectionists pictured and the theatres they worked in.
The album also contains images of a Projectionists Union farewell party for Russ Lynch and images of strike action by the Northern Projectionists Union in 1977.
Also included are images of projection staff and facilities at Hoyts cinemas in Melbourne, Sydney and Perth, and at the Greater Union Cinema in Adelaide.
