This recording contains a voice report by an unidentified male broadcaster on the effects on Canterbury of the storm that caused the Wahine disaster.

An elderly man was killed by a falling tree and a number of people have been injured. Damage is expected to run into hundreds of thousands of dollars. Water cascading down the hills into the Christchurch seaside suburbs of Sumner forced many homes to be evacuated. Twenty homes lost roofs on Canon Hill.
