Recordings made during the visit of the Governor-General Sir Bernard Fergusson to the Kaiuku Marae, Mahia, as his term of office neared its conclusion. (This is one of the last recordings made of Sir Eruera Tirikātene, who died the following month.)

The pōwhiri is performed by Wairoa Mohaka Anglican Youth Club under the direction of Reverend R.H. Rangiihu, and consists of the following items:

Kaikōrero: Jack Ormond (Tiaki Omana), former MP for Eastern Māori welcomes the Governor-General and Lady Fergusson, the first such visit to the Mahia Peninsula. (Kīnaki: Te ope tuatahi)

Kaikōrero: Sir Eruera Tirikātene, M.P. for Southern Māori welcomes the Governor-General and speaks about the marae and the surrounding district and apologises on behalf of Sir Turi Carroll who could not be present. (Kīnaki: Me he manu rere)

Kaikōrero: W. Nolan, Chairman of Wairoa County Council. He welcomes the vice-regal couple and apologises on behalf of Mr Mick and Mrs Madge Pōmare who could not be present today. (Kīnaki:Tahi nei taru kino)

Kaikōrero: Sir Bernard Fergusson, Governor-General. He greets the tangata whenua in te reo Māori and thanks the people for their welcome.
