Report from the Gulf.

Protesters at the National Party Caucus meeting in Rotorua are today claiming a victory because the government has said it may now top up some basic benefits. Speakers: Gilbert Miles, (National MP); John Banks, (National MP); Ruth Richardson, (Finance Minister).

Police were called as a man fired a rifle indiscriminately at Long Beach near Dunedin. A man gave himself up just before 8pm and is to be charged tomorrow. No one was hurt in the incident.

A new theory on the way Peter Plumley-Walker died has emerged at the Auckland High Court. Plumley-Walker, did not drown but in fact, died of a heart attack according to heart specialist Sir Brian Barratt-Boys.

Auckland police have tonight released photos of a dangerous prison escaper. The 28 was able to out run two guards while visiting a sick child, in an Auckland hospital.

The crew of the Green Peace ship Gondwana, carried out final preparations for an Antarctic voyage. The ship plans to monitor Soviet fishing boats accused of over fishing and to check on how bases on the ice dispose of their toxic waste.
