Encourages young New Zealand women to train in the nursing profession, “one of the highest peaks available to women... a passport to the world”.
Judith has a job at a city office but is at rather a dead end... she worries about where she will be in four years time - 1952, when NZ will no longer need to send aid to Britain. She decides to visit the matron at the local hospital and learn what is involved in becoming a nurse.
The film shows a typical nurses’ hostel, training in making beds and taking temperatures, remedies for bone fractures and poor diet . Third year students receive detailed instruction by doctors in the ward
At the end of training, students sit the senior state examination and have practical examinations in the ward. At the graduation ceremony, Judith and her colleagues receive their registered nurses’ medal.
