Originally captured on colour 16mm film, this home movie is from the George Gilltrap collection. George Edward Gilltrap (born Giltrap, 1911-1966) was a vintage car enthusiast who established Gilltrap’s Motor Museum in Rotorua before relocating with his family from New Zealand to Australia in 1959 where he established Gilltrap’s Gold Coast Auto Museum.

This home movie shows footage from a rainy day of the opening of Gilltrap's Motor Museum, Rotorua.
Barefoot children and other members of the public view various vintage motorcars parked along a street. Procession of vintage and veteran cars along several streets including passing the Ngongotaha Motor Co Garage and petrol station. Crowd gathered outside the museum front below decorative bunting while a man on stage talks in to microphone.
