New Zealand's geographic proximity to Antarctica has led to an active involvement in the scientific exploration of the Ice Continent since Scott Base was constructed near the Ross Ice Shelf in the mid 50s. Now, with world pressure on the greater extraction of natural resources, the question is will the next age be that of exploitation.
