In a small rural town, deep tensions and brutal violence are precipitated after a young woman leaves home to live in a commune. Katie is in her mid twenties, and her father has spent his life protecting her from what he thinks are the dangers of the outside world. She decides to leave home after she meets a happy-go- lucky farm worker. But the events which follow her journey of self discovery result in poignant tragedy.
