The Devil visits London and bewitches New Zealand squatters.
An homage to the films of John Waters and Russ Meyer which played in double and triple features (and all-nighters) in London’s Scala cinema.
FASTER PUSSYCAT! KILL! KILL! + KITTEN WITH A WHIP can be seen scrolling in light display across the hoarding of the repertory cinema in then-insalubrious Kings Cross. (The August 1985 Scala programme places the “Fearless Feline double” on the 23rd - with three screenings of each film alternating through the day.)
The neo-Gothic St. Pancras station frontage (then disused office space) is a glacial backdrop to fantasies of bedevilment and liberation on the housing estate. The red fence and crane (viewed from the Ossulton Estate) are part of the construction site of the British Library - which opened a decade later. A decade further on, Shane Meadows filmed SOMERS TOWN in the same area (Somers Town, NW1).
Film is silent, but should ideally be accompanied by John Waters’ CRY BABY soundtrack, side A.
