Misery for holiday air-travellers as Air New Zealand cabin crew strike continues. 430 flights have been cancelled due to the strike and 36,000 passengers affected, with further disruptions expected. Meeting between workers and Auckland Trades Council fails to negotiate settlement. Prime Minister David Lange refuses to meet with striking workers, while Air New Zealand management accuse workers of holding an illegal strike. British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher visits Hong Kong to sign takeover agreement with China. She says the agreement for Hong Kong to come under Chinese control in 1997 will preserve the colony’s stability and prosperity.
