This silent amateur home movie was originally captured on 8mm film and is part of the James (”Jim”) H. Robertson collection. Robertson (1902-1961) was a watchmaker and jeweller and avid filmmaker. He married Ivy Grooby in 1926 and they lived in Wellington for a time before settling in Motueka.

Opening title: “ROBERTSON PRESENTS”. “A TRIP SOUTH”.
Black & white film: Footage from a caravan road-trip south via the Kaikoura coast. Locations include Seddon, Goose Bay and [old Hunderlees Road]. Views from travelling car show both sealed and unsealed roads and follow a horse drawn wagon at one point.
Christchurch, Avon riverbank, street scenes. Lyttelton; peninsula/ harbour views, railway yards and ships in port, hillside with Timeball Station. Christchurch street scenes, Avon river.
Return road trip via Hurunui, views from car, landscapes, rivers, Goose Bay camping (caravan).
