Cartoon character Henry, initially clutching a small bag of savings, is shown to prosper through his association with the National Bank - as indicated by the voiceover: “Meet Henry - who thought banks were only for big people with lots of money. Not for nice little people with some money. One day Henry discovered the National Bank and the nice, friendly people who worked there. From that day on, Henry blossomed. He saved. Built a house. Went into business And married the sweet little teller he met at the National. The National looks after its own in so many ways.” Henry and this teller bride look out happily from the rear window of the departing wedding car. (Although not stated in the commercial, Henry is Pākehā and his bride is Māori.) Onscreen text matches the conclusion of the voiceover: “The National Bank. The Friendly One.” The word ‘friendly’ is underlined.

The first in a series of animated commercials from the bank. See eg. HENRY AND WIFE HAVE TWINS (C2527), HENRY AND HIS WIFE PLAYING WITH TWINS (C9912), HENRY AND HIS WIFE PUTTING TWINS TO SLEEP (C9914) and HENRY AND HIS FAMILY GOING ON HOLIDAY (C9913)
