Part 1 of 3.
New Zealand Broadcasting Unit chief engineer Noel Palmer [Military Service no. 34956] records a message to colleagues back in New Zealand, after arriving in Egypt. He congratulates John Proudfoot and Jean Barton on their engagement. He notes the mobile recording unit has been dug in, as the truck chassis to carry it has not yet arrived. Transport is a problem as cars are very scarce.
This item is part of a collection of recordings made by the Mobile Broadcasting Units, which travelled overseas with New Zealand forces between 1940-1945. They recorded New Zealanders' experiences of war and messages to their families and friends, which were sent back home to be played on a weekly radio programme.
