Part 1
Eva Mackay [Military service number 22812], Matron of No. 1 New Zealand General Hospital, 2NZEF, describes the preparations for a move to a new theatre of war when their hospital was selected for service with the New Zealand Division in Greece.

Early in March the main body of the unit moved off and the nurses followed later, arriving at Piraeus on the 27 March. After travelling for some time they arrived at their tented hospital on the 4 April to find the operating theatre already in action.

This item is part of a collection of recordings made by the Mobile Broadcasting Units, which travelled overseas with New Zealand forces between 1940-1945. They recorded New Zealanders' experiences of war and messages to their families and friends, which were sent back home to be played on a weekly radio programme.
