A moratorium on new casino applications is to be considered after a conscience vote in Parliament this afternoon. 65 MPs voted in favour of the Casino Control Amendment Bill, introduced by the Internal Affairs Minister Jack Elder. 35 voted against - there were no abstentions. The rabbit control disease RCD is now being spread in the North Island [illegible] to MAF - and that's raised concern that the virus hasn't yet been tested to see if it's contaminated with other viruses harmful to humans. The deadly rabbit virus was illegally introduced into the South Island in August - then, Checkpoint spoke to Auckland rabbit farmer, Glenda Easter who was considering court action because of the damage RCD could do to her business. The mother of convicted murderer Jason Mackrell says she has no confidence the mental health system won't let down other psychiatric patients. Her 28 year old son was today sentenced to preventive detention for raping two elderly women and killing one of them - 78 year old Catherine Coster. During his trial friends and family members gave evidence that they'd asked Sunnyside Hospital for psychiatric help for Mackrell, who is manic depressive, but had been refused. IV WITH Wendy Mackrell
