Long-time China resident Rewi Alley answers questions from a New Zealand radio panel, generally defending the policies of the communist Chinese government.
The panellists are J.L. Roberts, an economist from Victoria University, K. Baxter, secretary of the Federation of Labour, J.S. Muir, a former missionary in China and R.J. Harrison, lecturer in political science at Victoria University.
Topics covered include:
- China's population growth policy
- The state monopoly of industry in China
- Use of land
- Advancement of technology
- Economic growth
- Support for the Communist regime within China
- The status of ethnic minorities in China and separatism including Tibet
Mr Muir asks him about the more than one million Tibetans 'liquidated' by the Chinese government. Mr Alley says this figure is inflated and Tibetans he has spoken to now have a 'new deal', and are free of the previous feudal regime.
- Trade unions
- International relations and trade
- Freedom of religion/persecution of Christians
