An item from Green belt about the English settlers who arrived in Kerikeri from China in the late 1920s.

Joan Brady and Richard Benner, descendants of the twenty settler families, talk about their arrival in New Zealand. Noel Brady speaks briefly at the end of the recording.

Other European settlers mentioned, who came via China are a soldier, Mr Ainsworth, Reid Anderson and Captain Emmanuel. About fifty European families based in China bought property in Kerikeri but not all of them ended up emigrating. The North Auckland Land Development Corporation was paid by the settlers to plant citrus orchards and fence the properties before the settlers arrived. Noel Brady, whose family was already in Kerikeri, says locals had a poor opinion of the new arrivals.
There is some distortion and music breaks into the interview briefly.
