A two-part documentary. "For you, the war is over." With those words a German tank officer captured Alan "Snow" Burt in April 1941 in Southern Greece.
In 1939 17 year-old Alan had put up his age to join up. Over the next few years he suffered wounds, sickness and inhuman conditions. He escaped twice and helped with the tunnels in the famous POW camp Stalag Luft 111, including the most daring escape of all made by the means of a wooden vaulting horse.
"I'd do it all again" says Alan, " and anyway I was still in one piece in time for my 21st birthday".
