Brigadier Dittmer, the first Commanding Officer of the 28 Māori Battalion responds to the pōwhiri
by Te Tairawhiti to former members of the Battalion. He mentions Sir A.T. Ngata and Arnold (Harana) Reedy, he also mentions Gisborne's Mayor, Harry Barker, and the Bishop of Aotearoa, Rt Rev Wiremu Panapa.

Sir Charles Bennett, a former Battalion Commanding Officer speaks in both Māori and English. He speaks about "the feelings of kinship which will never disappear." Quotes Field Marshall Rommel's comment that "the Māori Battalion was the best fighting unit".

He also speaks about Lt. Te Moana-nui-a-Kiwa Ngarimu and the Victoria Cross Award.
