Part of the series of recordings made at the hui to present the posthumous Victoria Cross to the family of 2nd Lieutenant Moananui-a-Kiwa Ngārimu of the (28) Māori Battalion.

Held on the 6 October 1943, the Ngārimu investiture was held at Ruatōrea. Much preparation went into organising this hui, as thousands of visitors converged onto Whakarua Park.

The first speaker to welcome the Vice Regal party and visitors is Materoa Reedy, aunt of the late Lieutenant Moananui-a-Kiwa Ngārimu. Entertainment is provided by the many schools in the area, as well as individual local kapa haka groups. The Master of Ceremonies is Tā Apirana Ngata, who introduces many of the performances.
