Magazine Programme about Pacific People.

OPPOSITION LABOUR PARTY: The opposition Labour Party has condemed
plans by a United States company to turn the Pilmara Attoll in Kiribiti into a
long term international dump for high level platonium waste.
- kaikōrero: Taito Phillip Field spokesperson on Pacific Affairs released details
of a bill put to the United States Senators that would allow the worlds largest
waste dump to be establishedin the Pacific. He also states why Pilmara had been
chosen.

COT DEATH: An alarming rise of Pacific babies dying in their sleep is of concern
to Pacific Health workers.

PACIFIC Heart-beat programme: An inititive by the NZ Heart Foundation to make
life style Health changes for Pacific Poeple was set up in order to prevent
Coronary heart deceases.

the programme and its inception.

AUCKLAND's RENTAL HOUSES: There is growing concern amongst a proposal
to sell all Auckland City Council Rental Houses a large number of which is occupied
by Pacific People. The Council is to sell six hundred and four of its rental homes in
the inner city to developers at around Seventy three and a half million dollars.
The money is to be ued for some of the councils projects but since the announce-
ment of the proposal a petition has been signed by over five and a half thousand
people against the proposal. Dr. Bruce Hucker feels the proposal a commercial one
and not enough thought has been given to the proposal and the impact it will have
on the commuity.

JOURNALISTS: The Journalist Training oraganisation has decided to change
the basic industry entryr qualification from the excisiting National Certificate to a
new National Dipolma. Elma speaks with Executive Director Bill Southworth
about the change.
