This amateur colour silent film was shot by an unknown cameraperson in the early 1950s, although it is believed to be the work of Norman W. Blackie. Items of interest in this film are scenes of the 1950 British Empire Games held in at Eden Park in Auckland between 4 and 11 February, scenes of rural life in the East Coast, traditional Māori carving and travelogue scenes documenting New Zealand’s natural beauty. Footage of various men’s athletic competitions at the British Empire games including sprints, hurdles and discus. High shots overlooking beaches, a coastal settlement and footage of rugged coastlines and rocky shorelines. Long shot of horses and riders on a beach accompanied by a large number of dogs. Footage of a car, musterers on horseback, sheep dogs and stock trucks loaded with sheep fording a river.
