“However before presenting the two finalists, in response to many requests we again have the pleasure in showing the District Winners....”

This film depicts the winners from the seven North Island districts in the St. John Ambulance Baby Contest and reveals that “Baby Auckland” won the title “Baby North Island”.

The seven North Island Districts were: (1) Waikato, (2) Bay of Plenty – Poverty Bay, (3) Auckland, (4) West Coast North Island, (5) Taranaki – King Country, (6) Wellington, and (7) East Coast North Island.

Regrettably the film is incomplete, and does not show the winners from the three South Island districts, which were (1) North Canterbury, (2) Northern South Island, and (3) Southern South Island. Nor does it show “Baby South Island” (Llewellyn Gwynne of Dunedin), who competed with “Baby North Island” for the national title. “Baby North Island” was Chris Harrison of Devonport.

It is not known which of these two won the title “Baby New Zealand” and claimed the first prize of 500 pounds. Copies of this film screened in all the fifty-five theatres participating in the contest for one week in August 1940.
