A documentary on the restoration of two historic wharenui, Rongopai at Waituhi and Rukupo at Manutuke. Shows the outstanding decoration which characterises these meeting houses of the 1870s, and discusses the importance of wharenui in contemporary Māori society. In a supervised situation, the restoration process takes place with advice and encouragement from kaumātua of the marae. Another group from Tūai, near Waikaremoana, bring panels to be cleaned and repainted according to the original colours.

A Pacific Films Production for New Zealand Historic Places Trust.
