Air Maintenance Centre: MECHANICS BAY
Aerial topdressing is a familiar sight in NZ. Five years ago the laborious job was done by hand and with the aid of machinery. In Hamilton larger and smaller planes are being prepared for superphosphate dropping around New Zealand farms and agricultural districts.

At a service base at Mechanics Bay, repair to all types of aircraft used in New Zealand is carried out. The base is situated between Whenuapai and the projected new International Airport at Mangere. This film shows the workshop, which is a hive of industry and where more than 50% of the country’s contract work is done. Following an overhaul a thorough check is done before clearances are given.
