PERSONAL RECORD. MCKEE, TAS. [RAILWAY PROTESTS IN NELSON]
Loading the player...
A large crowd gathers at the top of Trafalgar Street in Nelson to listen to speakers on the cathedral steps, one of whom is Walter Nash. The camera pans across the street giving a good view of the shop buildings (including the Chez Elco cafe building) and crowd, at one stage clapping. Loud speakers are set up and a brass band stands ready.
The crowd begins to move, carrying placards with slogans like, “We must have a trunk railway”, “We demand our railway”, “Don’t dare pull up our tracks”, “A trunk railway link is vital to us”.
Shots of the Nelson railway station and yards with rusty sheds and abandoned equipment.
