004:27 HAMILTON - FRANKTON... TORNADO DAMAGE: Just before midday on August 25, a tornado hit Frankton and Hamilton East, causing mass destruction and the death of three people. The main shopping street in Frankton was all but demolished, and 163 homes were badly damaged, some beyond repair. People search through the rubble for personal belongings, and salvage whatever is intact. Emergency kitchens are set up for the rescuers and the homeless. The damage is assessed and estimated at £1000,000.
