Snowfall in Greymouth around 1929. Steam train in front of the Gas Works.
Dixon Park. Narrator’s sister. A car driving through the snow. “Schaef Garage” and petrol pumps.
Children (the sister and the “girls who used to do the housework”) building a snowman. Mr Partridge standing behind.
The snow storm in 1939. A car approaches the house in Bridge street. It drives down Marsden Road past houses. Turns into one of the driveways. Men throwing snow balls - one of them the narrator’s father. They roll huge blocks of snow.
Local pipe band, fire brigade, a float for “Blackmores dry gingerale”. A parade of cars, “the Old Chev with the boys from the garage”. Decorated cars and floats. One of the cars has “Schaefs for Furniture” written across the back

Greymouth Cyclone c1930. Factory remains, store with a hole in the roof, shop crushed by a tree , old opera house which lost its roof, the remains of the wash house, McGinley Park, the police constable’s house.

A day trip up Queen Charlotte Sound on the Milk Run c1934. Beautiful day; called into different bays and homes to pick up cream and deliver mail.
Bluff - men shovelling oysters into baskets which are hoisted onto the wharf then tipped into trucks. A little boy cracks open an oyster on the back of a carriage and eats it raw. A large overseas liner is also berthed in harbour. A fishing boat is on the way out. Lamb is loaded in huge nets onto an overseas ship.
