BEHIND THE SCENES WITH N.A.C. No. 1

Film starts with shots of NZ National Airways Corporation’s first Vickers Viscount landing at Whenuapai at the end of its delivery voyage from the UK. A Maori action songs welcomes the aircraft’s arrival and it is officially named “City of Wellington” by Lady Isaac, wife of the NAC chairman Sir Leonard Isaac. Also in the official party is the then Minister of Aviation Mr J. Matheson, the Mayor of Auckland Mr K. Buttle and NAC’s General Manager Captain J. Bush.

A description of the Viscount’s many advantages over previous aircraft is given. Selwyn Toogood then joins a flight to Christchurch to look behind the scenes at NAC’s engineering workshops at Harewood. The intricate and exacting process of overhauling a Viscount is shown.
